Academic minors allow you to learn about subjects outside your undergraduate degree major, an alternative that will both complement your main field of study and increase your career and professional marketability in today’s rapidly changing work environment.

Pursuing a Minor

To pursue a minor, you must have:

✓ Reached Sophomore status (30+ credits)
✓ Completed the Minor Application form
✓ Received approval from minor chair
✓ Received approval from major chair

Students must achieve a C or higher in all courses pertaining to the minor.

Criminal Justice Minor

To pursue a minor in criminal justice, you must have at least 30 credits and completed the Minor Application form on Self-Service and received approval from your major’s department chair as well as the criminal justice department chair. There are eight areas of focus: corrections, criminology, family violence, investigations (not available to CSI majors), juvenile justice, police management, security, and generalist. To earn the minor in criminal justice, you must achieve a grade of C or better in the courses aligned with your preferred focus area.

Intelligence & Data Analysis

The Intelligence & Data Analysis minor is designed to provide the necessary background for students to pursue careers as research and/or intelligence analysts in government agencies and/or private business enterprises. The work of these analysts, whether relating to banking, national security or criminal investigative activities, involves the preparation of assessments based on the collection, correlation, and analysis of data.

Philosophy

A minor in philosophy will enhance students' critical thinking and analytical skills. The minor explores ethics, logic, and philosophical thought. Students develop skills in argumentation, writing, and critical thinking, such as the ability to evaluate arguments and reason effectively. This minor would benefit students majoring in pre-law, English, digital media and communications, and business management and would also be an asset to those considering careers in the financial field.

Political Science

Deepen your understanding of governance, policy, and global issues with a political science minor. This program equips students with skills to navigate complex political systems and contribute to informed discussions on public policy. The information and skills gained in a political science minor are beneficial in various careers, including public service, legal fields, media, and beyond. Writing can change the world, but only if it reaches the right audience! By the end of the program, students are ready to write for advertising, marketing, scientific, and legal professions. With a firm grasp of usage and style, our students can write precisely, edit, and proofread. While current English majors may concentrate in Writing (Creative and Professional), this minor should appeal to students of any major who seeks to expand their career opportunities through writing.
