HAMBURG, NY – With a five-goal second quarter scoring spurt, Hilbert College took a commanding 13-8 NEAC victory over Morrisville State in men’s lacrosse April 13. The Hawks outscored Morrisville by one goal in the opening quarter, and matched them in point production in the second half. With the win, Hilbert claimed their first victory over the Mustangs since starting a Division III program three years ago.

Sophomore Brendan Kane paced the Hawks with 4 goals and added one assist, pushing Hilbert to 2-1 in NEAC (5-3 overall). Junior Sean Purtill was an active participant on offense, scoring 3 goals and distributing 3 assists. Elliott Russillio {in photo} also chipped in 3 goals and senior John Pingitore finished with 2 goals and one assist.

Morrisville’s Louie Geswaldo was the game’s leading scorer netting 5 goals for the 3-2 NEAC (3-7 overall).

Shaughn Irving gave Hilbert their first lead of the game at 12:05. Morrisville responded with 2 goals before Pingitore tied it at 2-2 at 4:48. The Mustangs beat William Wagner once more before Russillio hit back-to-back goals to finish the action and give Hilbert a 4-3 lead.

Kane and Purtill owned Morrisville in the second period as they took turns firing 5 balls past Tyler Catalfano between the pipes. After 30 minutes, Hilbert held a five goal lead and held that difference the rest of the way.

Middie Nick Kieffer won 12 of his 19 face-offs while defender Kyle Mackowiak and William Wagner both led with five ground balls.

The Hawks outplayed the visitors gaining advantages in shots (2), ground balls (14), and won 14 of the 22 face-offs.
