POTSDAM, NY – The Hilbert College women’s soccer team dropped their season opener, 4-0, against Potsdam in the first round game of the Potsdam Invitational. Hilbert was outshot 16-2 for the match while freshman Erin Smith made 9 saves for Hilbert in goal.
Smith earned six saves carrying Hilbert to a 1-0 deficit by half time. Potsdam’s loan first period goal was the result of a Hawk defender deflecting the ball to the back of Hilbert’s net. Potsdam padded their lead after only 14-minutes of play into the second period.
Hilbert faces Green Mountain in the consolation game September 2 at 11am. Potsdam will square off against Cazenovia, a 1-0 doubleover time winner in the 113th minute over Green Mountain.
