BRADFORD, PA - Hilbert College downed Pitt-Bradford 74-62 in men’s basketball January 16. With their fifth straight conference win, the Hawks continue to push ahead in the league standings sitting in a three-way tie for 3rd place at 6-3 (9-7 overall). Dan McFarland hit for 23 points to lead the team again in scoring with many of his passes delivered by CJ Hodge who finished with 6 assists for the night.
After falling behind early, the Hawks recovered and surged ahead on Trevor Stark’s layup with 11:29 left in the opening half. Leading 20-19, Hilbert went on to outscore the Panthers 17-7 over the final nine minutes of the first half to take a 37-26 lead into the break.
Hilbert stretched the lead to 15 early in the second half, but Pitt-Bradford fought back in a 13-5 run, closing the gap to 61-55. The Hawks went on a 10-0 run to extend their lead back to 16 points. The Panthers could not recover and surrendered on their home court.
Nine different players found the bottom of the net making it challenging for Pitt-Bradford to slow the Hawks on offense. Hilbert shot 86% from the foul line, going 10-13 in the second half after a perfect 8-8 the first period. Hilbert out-rebounded the Panthers (33-25) grabbing 12 offensive boards and scoring 13 second-chance points.
Coming off the bench, Anthony Hodge was a perfect six for six from the charity stripe scoring 12 points while working for three offensive rebounds. Chris Parrott chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Chris Hoak (7 points) and Trevor Stark (6 points) both shot the ball well for the Hawks who, as a team, finished at forty-seven percent field goal shooting.
Tyler Ferguson totaled 19 points and six rebounds with Keith Burgess adding 12 points for Pitt-Bradford.
Hilbert’s next challenge is January 21 when they start the second round of the AMCC game schedule. La Roche College (7-2) makes an appearance in the Hafner Recreation Center as the Student Activities Office on campus hosts the Student Appreciation Day for Hilbert’s students. The men’s game begins at 2 pm with fun activities planned during the course of the day.
