BUFFALO, NY – The Hilbert College women’s soccer team tried in desperation to even the score late in the game but Medaille College held on and beat the Hawks 1-0. Hilbert finished the season at 7-10 (and 2-7 AMCC) while Medaille moves on into the first round of the AMCC play-offs.
Medaille controlled the opening half as they outshot Hilbert 7-1, yet both teams went to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0. The score board lights finally changed when Medaille’s Breanna Hyman managed to maneuver through four Hilbert defenders to place the game-winner in the back of the net at 76:53. After that, the Hawks turned up their intensity, created a few scoring opportunities but came away empty when the final horn sounded at 10:45 pm.
Jessica Morey led the Hawks offense with 3 shots (2 on goal) and Mary Zinni made 8 saves in her team’s final match of the season. For her career, Zinni finished with 19 shut-outs wins which moves her into a first-place tie with Vinnita Macri '02.
The AMCC play-offs begin October 29th with the championship game set for November 5 at either Penn State Altoona or Pitt Bradford depending on the outcome of the final regular season AMCC contests being played October 25.
