BUFFALO, NY – The Hilbert College men’s soccer team dropped their final contest of the 2011 season against Medaille College October 25. The Hawks (1-16-1, 1-8) had a strong defensive outing against the league leading Mavericks (16-2-1, 9-0), allowing just one first-period goal, but they couldn’t contain the offensive push from Medaille and lost 3-0.
Hilbert’s defensive coverages, anchored by Scott Cvetkovski {in photo to right} were enough to keep Medaille contained the first half, and gave the Hawks reasons to believe they were still playing to win. With the start of the second 45 minutes, the Hawks continued to play tenacious defense, but they couldn’t get things started offensively. Tor George connected for his second goal of the game in the 59th minute and Alex Rouse (26th season goal) finished the scoring with three minutes left in the contest. The Mavericks held the advantage in shots (29-2) and corner kicks (11-0), making Hilbert’s Kamil Cislak work for his 12 saves in net for the Hawks.
The October 25 matchup was the last time the Hilbert men’s soccer team took the field this season, having exhausted their playoff chances. The first round of AMCC playoffs start Saturday, October 29.
