Hulbert Nets Game Winner in OT

GREENVILLE, PAAlyssa Hubert scored the tying goal forty-seven seconds into the second half to keep the soccer game within reach for Hilbert at Thiel College September 22. It then took the Hawks nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds into the first overtime to capture their 5th win of the 2011 season, bettering their win-record from 2010.

Alliana Hardgrove earned her first goal at 31:46 to put the host team in a 1-0 advantage. Then after intermission, Hulbert  {in photo to right} netted her sixth goal (this season) off a direct kick at 45:47 to force the 1-1 deadlock. Thiel outshot the Hawks (11-6) and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks in regulation.

In the 99th minute, Hilbert’s Katie Newton was tripped in the box setting the table for Hulbert to knock home the game winning penalty kick. 

Hilbert (5-3) moves into the next phase of their game schedule when they begin AMCC league play. September 24, the Hawks host Pitt-Greensburg (0-7) at 3pm on the varsity field on campus. Greensburg is searching for their first win, as much as their first goal scored.
