Job Summary: The Development Officer at Hilbert College is a key member of the Institutional Advancement team who will help build a robust development program. This position will play an integral role in the development and management of a comprehensive program that will build positive relationships with alumni and friends to encourage their continued or new financial support of the College. The DO is responsible for achieving the yearly fundraising goal and will oversee all aspects of the major giving program, including the development and implementation of strategies and programs that include the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts from individuals and organizations. This position will create a strategic plan of action and evaluation plans for the major giving program through direct face-to-face solicitation strategies and will also work closely with other members of the IA team to execute a comprehensive fundraising and stewardship strategy.
Requirements/Qualifications: Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising, able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle; able to work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors; demonstrated ability to successfully manage multi-functional and diverse activities at once; strong communication, interpersonal, public speaking, and excellent writing skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people within and outside the Office of Advancement; strong knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word and Excel, and Donor database programs, preferably Raiser’s Edge; strong analytical and problem solving skills; proven leadership and supervision skills; ability to influence and direct volunteers; good project management and prioritization; able to work and coordinate with outside vendors as needed. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, advanced degree preferred; three (3) years’ experience in fundraising with preference given to educational fundraising; demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate and manage donors; demonstrated success in meeting aggressive goals; flexible schedule, must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.
