AURORA, NY – Hilbert College’s Erin Smith turned away 22 shots on goal but, unfortunately, the Hawks didn’t produce any offense of their own in the 2-0 loss in women’s soccer at Wells College September 5. Shannon Blanford earned four points for the Express who improved to 1-1 with their non-conference victory.
Hilbert’s Megan Van Norman was able to unleash four of the Hawks’ seven shots on goal, but the Express keeper, Ashley Roser, stopped every shot and earned her first shutout of the season.
Blanford scored in the 34th minute after she evaded a Hilbert defender and took a through-ball up the middle to go unopposed against Smith in goal. She later notched her second strike 11:52 into the second half which dropped the Hawks record to 1-2 overall.
The women’s soccer team travels to Alfred University September 8 to play under the lights in the 7pm game. They then have a week-long break before they host their home-opener September 15th at 1pm against Hiram.
