OSWEGO, NY – Hilbert College notched one tally back in the win column after their four-set non-conference victory over Oswego State in women’s volleyball October 10. Sets two and three were won by identical scores (25-20), with set two going to the host while Hilbert made it to 25 first in the third set. The Hawks controlled the final set (25-15) to improve to 13-6 overall.
The Hawks were credited with 34 team kills and finished with (.123) hitting percentage. Chelsea Reischuck led the squad with 11 kills and six service aces. Allegra Johnson (13) headed a trio of players credited with double figure digs and Jordan Botsford assisted on two of the team’s blocks in the match. Shannon Memminger had the team’s best hitting percent (.600) after she earned 3 kills without any errors (5 attempts) and passed for 24 set-assists.
With seven games left in their regular season schedule, the Hawks continue to break single-season records. The most important one is the wins in a season (13) and AMCC wins (3). After their win over Oswego, the 2012 Hawks now hold a team season record with 644 Kills, (.132) Attack Percentage, 595 season Assists, and they are only 15.5 points away from setting a new season Point Total. Individually, Memminger broke her 2011 single season Assist record and Service Ace record against Penn State Behrend and stands at 52. Johnson is 48 Kills away from setting a single season record with Reischuck only six kills behind (154-148).
Hilbert currently sits in third place in league standing with five AMCC games left to play. This weekend they travel to Penn State Altoona (1-3) and, while there, will also face Pitt-Greensburg (1-2). On October 16, the Hawks will honor their two seniors, Devan Jonathan and Rachel Kwiatkowski, along with challenge Medaille College (4-1). Hilbert sprinkles in two non-conference matches (at Houghton, 10/18 and hosts Wilkes 10/20) before they travel to Bradford (2-3) October 24 and Franciscan (3-2) October 27. The top six teams extend their playing season when the AMCC play-offs begin October 30.
