The Hilbert College women’s volleyball team earned a hard-fought five-game victory (25-22, 10-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-10) over Medaille College, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve their overall record to 5-3.

The Hawks took game one from the visiting Mavericks 25-22, but dropped the next two sets 10-25 and 23-25. The Hawk’s responded to some hard coaching from second year coach Mary Easterbrook and managed to grind out the final two games 26-16 and 15-10 on their way to the victory.

Sophomore Erica Page (Angola, N.Y./Lakeshore) anchored the Hawk defense with 20 digs. Page also contributed some offense with 8 kills.

Senior Melissa Kick (Blasdell, NY/Mt. Mercy) led the way offensively for the Hawks, as she posted a team-high 23 assists.

“It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win,” said head coach Mary Easterbrook. “We showed some good resolve to battle back and that’s what I am most proud of.”

The Hawks return to action Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. in a tri-match hosted by Keuka College. The Hawks will face host Keuka and Concordia College.
