Volleyball Hawks finish 2nd at SUNYIT Invit.

UTICA, NY – The Hilbert College women’s volleyball team improved to 7-4 on the season by going 3-1 at the SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Hawks are off to their best start in the program’s history and currently boast the third best overall record in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).
Friday night the Hawks opened with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-26, 30-25) win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts before falling in three games (18-30, 25-30, 28-30) to tourney champ Framingham State.
Saturday’s results saw the visiting Hawks cruise by SUNY Purchase 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-26) while tourney host SUNYIT forced Hilbert to five games before bowing 30-19, 30-20, 28-30, 26-30, 15-6.
Hilbert freshman Erica Page (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) racked up 15 kills, nine aces, and 20 digs while earning all-tournament honors. Junior teammate Kristy Gonciarz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) also made the all tourney team. The 5’11 middle-blocker finished the weekend with 23 kills and eight total blocks.
The Hawks will begin preparations for next weekend’s AMCC opener on Saturday, September 22nd at the University of Pitt-Greensburg.
