BUFFALO, NY – Hilbert College used a 23-7 run in the second half to run away from D’Youville College and capture a 68-59 road win in women’s basketball January 11. Freshman Jenah Labuski finished with her second double-double this season netting 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while sophomore transfer Natalie Whitman earned 17 points and 14 rebounds to help improve the Hawks to 2-5 in league play (2-11 overall). The Spartans (2-5, 3-11 overall) were led by Torie Hax who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Even though they shot a dismal 21% from the floor, Hilbert controlled the game the entire first half as they held a dominating 35-22 rebounding edge (19 offensive) over the Spartans. With a 27-25 half time lead to work with, the Hawks stayed on top, until D’Youville’s Sara Wozniak hit back-to-back three point field goals. Her six points gave the Spartans their first lead in the game at 15:25. It took less than five minutes for Hilbert to regain the lead and grab their second AMCC win in five days.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, January 14 when they host Mount Aloysius College (3-4, 5-8 overall) in a 4pm tip in the Hafner Recreation Center.
