CAZENOVIA, NYJenah Labuski earned her first double-double of the season scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in Hilbert’s 47-46 loss to Cazenovia in women’s basketball November 30.   Vicki Dufort carried the Wildcats scoring seven of the team’s last nine points of the game as Cazenovia battled back from a 14-point first half deficit to claim their first victory of the season.

Hilbert jumped out to their largest lead of the game holding a 20-6 advantage with 5:02 left in the first half. The Hawks maintained their control of the contest well into the second period as they outrebounded Cazenovia 21-15 on the offensive glass, made 21 of 27 free throws and turned the ball over fewer times than the host team.

With 2:17 on the clock, the Wildcats took their first lead 41-39 off a made three-point bucket by Dufort.   Labuski tied the game for the first time in the second half seventeen seconds later. Freshman Kateland Ball finished the Hawks’ scoring when she hit two shots from the charity stripe followed by a long distance make with eight seconds remaining. With four seconds left, Cazenovia missed two free throws and a Hilbert desperation shot with time expiring missed, dropping the Hawks to 0-6 for the year.

Ball finished with her personal best eight points and senior Julie Bossard contributed a double-seven stat line (7 points/7 rebounds). Dufort capped her night with 15 points/8 rebounds for Cazenovia.

Hilbert will begin the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference portion of the game schedule when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA December 3 and take-on the AMCC preseason favorite, La Roche College (4-1) at 4pm. They don’t return home to the Hafner Recreation Center until December 10 to host Pitt-Greensburg.
