Hamburg, NY – The 23rd ranked Medaille College Mavericks took a 46-16 half time lead and never looked back as they coasted to a 70-43 victory over Hilbert College in women’s basketball February 3. Junior Sarah Graves (Restof, NY/York) had a 14-point career high to lead the Hawks in defeat. Medaille received balanced scoring with Tanisha Travis leading the way with 18 points as all Mavericks found the scoring column. The Hawks drop to 0-13 in AMCC standings while Medaille continues to maintain the top spot at 13-1.
Sophomore Amber Grosch (Depew, NY/Depew) earned her first double-double of the season when she pulled down 10 boards to pair with her 13 points. Sophomore Shavonne Walton (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) distributed for a team and career high 7 assists on the night. The Hawks had 14 offensive rebounds and 10 steals for the game. Medaille shot 49% from the floor the first 20 minutes propelling them to the large half time advantage. Hilbert outscored the Mavericks in the second stanza (27-24) shooting 33% from the field.
Hilbert travels to Steubenville, OH on Saturday, February 5th when they look to avenge the three-point loss to Franciscan University in early January. The Barons have one more win than the Hawks and with a road victory, Hilbert could match Franciscan’s standings in the league.
