ERIE, PA: The Hilbert College’s women’s basketball team traveled to Penn State Behrend for the second AMCC meeting between the two clubs on February 17. The host team put a freeze on the Hawks’ shooting and went on to secure a (87-23) victory on their team’s senior night. Freshman Amber Grosch (Depew, NY/Depew) lead the Hawks with 8 points (3-4 shooting) and 7 rebounds while sophomore forward Julie Bossard (Arkport, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) was busy swatting the ball around earning 5 blocks to go with her 7 points and 8 rebounds.
The game was within one point at 5-4, but Behrend would soon go on a 15-0 run to put the game at 19-4 with just over ten minutes left in the half. Behrend would also capitalize on by sinking all of their free throws going 13 for 13 in the opening half. The score by intermission saw the Behrend Lions up 47-7.
Out of the locker room the home team picked up right where they left off by forcing turnovers and turning them into buckets at the other end. The Behrend Lions held their opponents to a measly 18.8% shooting from the floor and did not allow a single three point basket all game. Holly Bourquin led the Lions with 16 points on 8 for 10 shooting all inside the paint.
The Hawks will complete their 25-game schedule on Saturday, February 20 when they play at Frostburg State (Frostburg, MD). The Bobcats are currently in 3rd place (16-7, 13-5) heading into conference playoffs which begin on Tuesday, February 23.
