The Hilbert College softball team dropped a pair of games to local rival D’Youville College on April 2, 2009. The Spartans bested the Hawks 6-2 and 11-6. The Hawk’s record falls to 4-11 overall.
In game 1, D’Youville jumped out to a 6-0 lead through five innings. The Hawks tried to get a rally going in the sixth, plating two runs. But the rally would run out of gas, and the Spartans would prevail.
Freshman Dale Johnathan (Tonawanda Indian Reservation/Akron) was 1-3 at the plate, and knocked in both Hilbert runs.
In game 2, the Hawks trailed just 7-6 after 3.5 innings, but D’Youville added two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to swell the lead to 11-6, which is how the game would end.
Junior Sarah Collins (Milroy, PA/Indian Valley) was 3-4 in game 2, with three RBIs and a run scored.
The Hawks host La Roche College in an AMCC contest April 5.
