HC Softball Team Falls Short in Opener

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Hilbert College softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to NAIA Division I Pikeville College in Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday. Hilbert’s Meghan Gollaher (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) suffered the loss on the mound for the Hawks who fall to 0-1 to start the season.
Tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Hilbert’s Kaitlyn Miller (Depew, NY/Depew) scored on a sacrifice fly by Lacy John (Versailles, NY/Gowanda) to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Pikesville got a two-out triple that scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Hilbert’s Amber Fie (Olean, NY/Olean) finished two for three on the day. The Hawks will regroup for a pair of games Monday against Alvernia College and later against NCAA Division II Mansfield University.
