PITTSBURGH, PA – Seniors Alyssa Hulbert and Kayla Norman doubled their effort in the Hawks 5-0 victory in women’s soccer at Chatham University September 20. Hilbert improves to 4-3 on the year which matches last year’s win total at this point of the season. Hilbert controlled the pace of the game as senior Mary Zinni earned her third shutout of the season.
Norman opened the scoring in the 29th minute off a Hulbert assisted ball. Five minutes later, Norman chipped in her team-leading sixth goal of the season (Jill Martucci assist). The Hawks outshot Chatham 17-0 during the first 45 minutes of play and held a 4-0 corner kick advantage.
Nicole Blair beat Chatham’s Liz Sawyer in the 63rd minute from about 25 yards out. Defender Amber Grosch fed Blair for her third goal of the season. Then in the 86th and 87th minute, captain Hulbert scored back-to-back unassisted goals putting an exclamation point on the team’s victory.
Hilbert had ten different players get shots off; Hulbert led the attack with 13 of the team's 37. In contrast, Chatham’s Savannah Moon and Rebecca Pell were the only two Cougars to clear the defenders for one shot each on Zinni.
Hilbert travels to Thiel College September 21 for a 5pm game. AMCC league play opens up this Saturday (9/24) with a match against Pitt-Greensburg at 3pm.
