HAMBURG, NY: Hilbert College women’s soccer team hosted the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon in Western New York. The Hawks came out fast and scored early while maintaining control of the pace the entire game. Hilbert’s record improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with the 7-0 victory.

Sophomore forward Kayla Norman’s (Brockport, NY/Brockport) shot was deflected back into play by Michelle Love the Greensburg goalie, allowing sophomore forward Alyssa Hulbert (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) to boot the ball in for her first goal of the season 2 minutes into the game. Hulbert went onto score two more goals in the next 15 minutes of the first half locking up her first hat-trick of the season. Hulbert’s second goal came from a penalty kick at the 10 minute mark and an unassisted goal at the 23 minute mark. Before the first half ended, Norman found the net herself registering the half time score 4-0.

Norman started the scoring in the second half with her second goal at the 58 minute mark with Hulbert getting credit for the assist this time. Hulbert’s hat-trick and one assist ties the women’s soccer team’s most points in a single game.

Finishing the scoring for the game were freshmen Heather Hottois (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) and Jessie Roland (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), both goals unassisted. The Hawks outshot Greensburg 19-3 for the 90 minutes.

Mary Zinni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) earned her fourth shutout for the season while making 2 saves for the day.

Coach James Ruggiero explained, “We made some changes this week in preparing for UP Greensburg (1-6 overall, 0-1 in AMCC) and we saw some rewards with that today. We really knocked the ball around well and kept nice possession sequences.” He continued “that having freshmen score in a conference game is always a plus.”

The women’s soccer team packs up their kits and heads south on Sunday, September 20th to play a 1 pm game at Bethany College, WV. They then head to Thiel College for a double header soccer game with the men’s team on Thursday, September 24th and also on Saturday, September 26th for another double header at AMCC-foe Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH. Their next home game is schedule for Wednesday, September 30th at 4 pm against first-year AMCC opponent D’Youville College.
