Hawks Cruise Past D'Youville 3-0

The Hilbert College women’s soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over local rival D’Youville College in their second game of the Alfred University Invitational tournament, on Sunday afternoon. Senior forward Tricia Knight (Sardinia, NY/Pioneer), junior midfielder Samantha Cevaer (Ransomville, NY/Pioneer) and midfielder Courtney DeVille (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) each tallied goals for the Hawks.

Freshman midfielder Alyssa Hulbert (Tonawanda NY/Kenmore East) recorded her first career assist and totaled three helpers on the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Julie Bossard (Arkport, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) also recorded her first career assist in the match.

The Hawks got a solid performance in net as freshman keeper Mary Zinni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) recorded her first career shutout in the win.

“This was a nice effort today from our team,” head coach James Ruggiero remarked. “We played very well and generated a great deal of attack.”

Knight and Hulbert, were rewarded for their solid efforts, and were named to the all-tournament team.

The Hawks return to action Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. when they open the home portion of their schedule against Clarkson.
