Hawks Continue to Lower Times

ERIE, PA – Penn State Behrend hosted their annual Behrend Invitational September 15th which always draws a competitive field of runners. The Behrend women defended their own title, for the second year in a row, while Gannon University captured the men’s division. Matt Williams carried Hilbert to a 17th place finish as Shannon Ellis (in photo to right) led the Hawks to a 15th place out of 16 women’s teams. Hayden Krick, Defiance College, was the first the break the tape at the finish line in the men’s 8K course (25:57.8), and Veronica Bujdos, Gannon, ran a 19:14.9 5K to earn the number one slot for the women’s division.
Ellis, who dropped a few minutes off her time from one week earlier, finished in 54th place (23:17.9) followed by Miranda Reimond (23:59.5), Crystal Hailey (24:44.9), Kateland Ball (27:27.6) and Kayla Lansberry (28:23.4) placing Hilbert 23 points ahead of last place La Roche College.
Williams, who ran his personal best at 33:38.9) led Josh Walczuk (34:01.9), Tyler Roth (35:15.8), Kyle Kriegbaum (36:02.6), Rick Landahl (36:58.7) and John Sadowski (38:02.4) as well as Andrew Cartaginese (41:41.0). The Hawks were 11 points away from finishing as high as 14th place.
Hilbert will host its fourth annual Meghan Memorial Race September 22 with the women’s race beginning at 10am followed by the men’s at 10:45am. The race will be held once again at Frontier High School.
