MARCY, NY - The Hilbert College men's volleyball team welcomed a new All Time Career Leader to the program during the second day of competition at the SUNYIT tournament January 26.   Adam Weaver needed 12 kills to move to the top spot in the Hilbert record book with 561 Kills.

The junior outside hitter reached that milestone in the Hawks 3-0 victory over SUNYIT and continued to build his wealth in the Hawks 3-0  loss to Sage College in the second match of the day.

David Mellerski set for 30 assists while Weaver knocked down 17 kills to become the leader at Hilbert College against SUNYIT. After a close first set, the Hawks took over the final two games (25-23, 25-16, 25-19) to beat a rival United Volleyball Conference opponent in an early non-conference match. Ryan Ratajczak was credited with 15 digs as was Weaver with 10 digs. Fred Sickau and Tim Kelly each earned 7 kills and Sickau finished with 2 blocks.

In a tough final match of the tourney, Sage (4-1) controlled the match from start to finish (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) hitting .360 at the net. Weaver added 16 more kills to his total (.323) while Ratajczak added 17 digs on the afternoon. Anthony Blasz was consistent at the net producing 6 kills (.417) and Mellerski and Korey Schwab added six digs each as the Hawks moved to 2-2 overall.

The Hawks travel to D’Youville College January 31 when they play their first UVC league game at 7pm.

Hilbert  then return to Hamburg for their first home matches of the year on February 3. The Hawks will host a tri-match with D’Youville (10 am) and first-year program, Penn State Altoona (2pm). D’YC and PSA face each other at 12 noon.
