Kieffer Leads Hawks In Road Loss

PITTSBURGH, PA – Hilbert College suffered an 18-13 non-conference loss to La Roche College in men’s lacrosse April 7. The RedHawks outscored the visiting Hawks in the first three quarters, holding a 15 – 7 lead going into the final session and then held on for their fifth win of the season.  

Leading the way for Hilbert in the scoring column with three goals piece were Nick Cavalieri (one assist) and Elliot Russillio who each earned two grounds. Nick Kiefferalso chipped in two goals and three assists as well as 11 ground balls while he won 20 of the Hawks 33 face-offs.   William Wagner went the full 60 minutes between the pipes making 17 saves.

La Roche outscored the Hawks by identical scores (6-3) each quarter in the first half. Offensive out-put slowed for both teams in the third quarter (3-1) before Hilbert held the point advantage (6-3) in the last fifteen minute session.

Hilbert was the stronger team in the circle winning 23 of the game’s 33 face-offs, but La Roche held a ten shot advantage (47-37) and earned 15 more ground balls (51-35) to capture the win.

 Hilbert returns to Hamburg for their next game against Wells College April 9 with a 4 pm face-off.
