BUFFALO, NY – In a rematch against #11 Medaille College, the Hilbert College men’s volleyball team dropped a United Volleyball Conference game in North Buffalo February 16. The Mavericks’ consistent hitting and strong serving led to their 3-0 victory and two-game sweep of their cross-town rival. Hilbert dropped to 1-4 in UVC while Medaille improved to 3-2.
Sophomores Fred Sickau and Adam Weaver led the Hawks with 6 and 3 kills, respectively. Sickau’s individual hitting percentage (.444) wasn’t enough to carry the Hawks in their 25-16, 25-17, 25-15 loss.
Erin Kelly’s 7 kills contributed to the host’s .410 hitting percentage. The nationally ranked Mavs almost doubled the Hawks’ kills (31 to 17) and three different Medaille players were credited for service aces during the three-set match.
Hilbert has a few days off before they host Nazareth College February 22 (7pm). The Golden Flyers, the defending national champions from one season ago and currently ranked seventh in the American Volleyball Coaches Association, sit at 9-4 overall and 3-2 in league standings.
