STEUBENVILLE, OH – Still fighting for their first league win, the Hilbert College men’s soccer team couldn’t find the combination to unlock their scoring potential in the 2-0 AMCC league loss to Franciscan University October 1. With the overnight rain and windy, cool weather pattern which moved through Ohio, the men’s contest was played on Franciscan’s practice field thinking it was a solid playing surface for a men’s soccer game. The Hawks came up empty even though they were able to mirror the host institutions efforts. Franciscan improves to 1-1 in league play and Hilbert drops to 0-2.

Franciscan put their first hurt on Hilbert at 34:24 when Blake Bonilla hooked up with Tommy Allen for the game winner.   The Hawks outshot the Barons 7-4 to open the second half, but when Kevin McCartney’s unassisted goal got past Kamil Cislak at 78:46, the Hawks got only one more shot off before the final horn.

Cislak finished with 7 saves for the Hawks. Franciscan’s Tim Vander Woude made 4 saves to help his team improve to 2-7.  Ed Sarcione gathered six shots with support from Mo Ahmed’s two.

The Hawks (0-10-1) return to action October 5 when they host Pitt-Bradford at 2pm.
