FREDONIA, NY - With the weekend washed out at Hilbert College’s baseball field, the Hawks gave up their home game scheduled for April 4 and took an opportunity to play at Fredonia State on Sunday, April 3. Even though Hilbert was the official home team, they did not get play with the home team moxie. Fredonia took both games from the Hawks (9-2) and (7-1), dropping Hilbert to 1-11 overall.
The first game found the Hawks giving up five runs in the third inning (which extended to nine runs by the top of the fifth inning) before Hilbert could put any runs in the book. Freshman Matt Young (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) and sophomore Joe Hart (Eden, NY/Eden) each earned an RBI sending infielder Chris Hoak (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) and junior Jim Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) home for the only two Hawk scores. Fredonia’s eight hits all resulted in their 8 RBIs with 9 runs crossing the plate giving them the 9-2 victory.
Senior Ryan LaCorte (Cheektowaga, NY/JFK) scored Hilbert’s only run (Matt Militello RBI) in the bottom of the 3rd inning in the 7-1 afternoon loss. The Hawks had three hits while giving up 10 hits in the second session.
Hilbert hopes to host RIT (7-9) in a 2pm double header Thursday, April 7. Keep your eyes peeled to the website for updates on game status.
