ELMIRA, NY – The Soaring Eagles from Elmira College flew over the Hawks from Hilbert March 24 claiming a 3-0 victory and ending Hilbert’s season at 1-24. The host institution finished the game hitting .322 with 42 kills and 10 total team blocks as they continue on in the United Volleyball Conference play-offs at Nazareth College March 26. In a match where both teams played only seven players, Hilbert didn’t have enough firepower at the net hitting only .079 with 28 kills.
Leading the Hawks was a duo from Stow, OH. Senior setter RJ Sykora (Stow Munroe Falls) had 24 assists and freshman outside hitter Adam Weaver (Archbishop Hoban) had 10 kills. Finishing his college career as Hilbert’s All-Time kill leader, senior Dan Wolfe (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) pushed his lead up with 8 more kills and 9 digs.
Elmira’s sensational freshman setter, Michael Vellutato passes for 38 assists and had 5 total blocks to pair with Ryan Gelenitis’ 17 kills in 25 attempts.
