Ft. Pierce, FL – Five different Hilbert pitchers were able to get their feet wet in the 9-inning 13-3 loss to Westminster College in the afternoon baseball game March 15. Senior Frank Simmeth (Cheektowaga, NY/St. Mary’s) took the mound for three innings with freshman Joe Juszkiewicz (Derby, NY/Lakeshore) tossing three himself. The remainder of the pitching was picked up by freshmen Joe Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute), Matt Young (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Grant Decz (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) as the coaches continue to evaluate their pitching staff.
Jim Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/ St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) went 2 for 4 with some offensive help from Zack Taylor (Wattsburg, PA/Seneca) who was 1 for 2 and scored one run before Matt Militello (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and Ryan LaCorte (Cheektowaga, NY/JFK) scored the other two to complete the game’s scoring.
Hilbert plays Oswego State March 16 at 1pm before they conclude their spring trip with a Thursday contest against Bethany College.
