Hamburg, NY – The Hilbert Hawks men’s soccer team hosted Thiel Tomcats on Wednesday, September 22nd in the second game of a double header.  The Hawks opened the scoring when freshman forward Shawn Colvin (Elma, NY/Iroquois) volleyed a ball over the Tomcats keeper just five minutes in the game for his second goal of the season. Colvin’s goal was assisted by sophomore Jon Flowers (Eden, NY/Eden).  The Tomcats tied the score at 1-1 in the 11th minute of the first half by Tyler Hanks.  The Hawks rallied when sophomore Ed Sarcione (Eden, NY/Eden) scored two identical goals just one minute apart.  He {in photo to right} combined with junior captain Eric Russell (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) to the lower right corner  earning his second and third goals of the season. Hilbert held a 3-1 lead at intermission.

Two minutes in the second half the Hawks added their fourth goal off a penalty kick which was scored by Russell. After that, the Tomcats became efficient players.  Thiel’s Tanner Messing scored four goals by himself – two off headers past the outstretched hands of Hilbert’s Kamil Cislak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster).  With less than one minute left in the game, Thiel added their last goal giving them a 6-4 comeback victory. The Tomcats improve to 5-4-1 and Hilbert drops to 0-8.

The Hawks start AMCC play Saturday, September 25th when they travel to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.  Any fan wishing to listen to the game live should follow this link: http://client.stretchinternet.com/client.upg.portal.
