BUFFALO, NY – Dan Russell’s (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) game winning goal just 12:00 minutes into play proved to be enough as the Hilbert College men’s soccer team held off Daemen College 1-0 on Thursday. The win is the Hawks first over the NAIA division II Wildcats and ups Hilbert’s record to 2-4 on the season.
Adam Eaton (Sardinia, NY/Pioneer) stopped 10 shots before being injured and was replaced with Joshua Griffey (Holland, NY/Holland). The two freshmen combined for the shutout win while teammates Matt Begeal (Northville, NY/Wells) and Justin Piotrowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) picked up assists on Russell’s goal.
The Hawks travel to Hiram College Saturday and face the 5-1 Terriers in a 2:00 pm match.
