MORRISVILLE, NY – In their final game of the season, the Hilbert College men’s lacrosse team lost to NEAC league-leader Morrisville State April 28. The Mustangs held a dominating advantage of shots against Hilbert as they completed their undefeated league schedule with the 21-10 victory. Nick Cavalieri scored four goals for the Hawks while Andrew Stein and Jeremy Beresovoy each netted five tallies for Morrisville.
With a 4-2 first quarter advantage, Morrisville (10-3, 7-0) went on a nine-goal explosion scoring a goal in each minute of the first seven minutes of the second quarter. Elliott Russillio broke the spree at 5:23 but the Hawks surrendered two more goals over the next sixty-seconds. Cavalieri’s two second-period scores (assisted by Eric Russell and Sean Purtill) brought Hilbert as close as they would get at intermission, 13-5.
Russell, Purtill, and Russillio would each score again in the second half but the Mustangs had too much firepower for Hilbert to handle. Morrisville outshot the Hawks (71-34), picked up more ground balls (40-29) and won 24 of the 35 face-offs.
Hilbert’s William Wagner finished with 30 saves in the sixty minutes he played between the pipes.
Hilbert completed their first season in the NEAC league with a fifth place finish at 4-4, and 5-7 overall.
