The Hilbert College men's golf team opened their 2008 season, Saturday afternoon, at the University of Pitt-Bradford Invitational. The tournament was held at Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford, Pa.
The Hawks placed 10th out of 13 teams in the field. Junior Joe Roberts (Adams, NY) recorded the lowest score for Hilbert, shooting an 84. Junior Brian Rathke (Buffalo, NY) and freshman Garrett Gelia (East Amherst, NY) both fired an 18 hole score of 89. Ian Frost (Pine Valley, NY) posted a score of 94. As a team, the Hawks finished with a combined team-score of 356.
"It was good to see newcomers Garrett Gelia and Joe Roberts do reasonable well considering the rainy conditions," said head coach Richard Walsh. "We will look to build off of this performance at our next match."
The Hawks return to the links Sept. 15 at the Oswego State Invitational, which will take place at the Oswego Country Club.
