HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College’s Jerame Owens was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Player of the Week February 18th. The rookie from Rochester, NY came up huge for the Hawks in two must-win conference games last week as he averaged 15.5 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals per game to help the program earn its first ever 20-win basketball season.
Against Behrend, Owens led Hilbert with his 9th double-double this season bringing in 18 points and 12 rebounds in addition to three steals. He was also a perfect six from the foul line to help his team seal the victory.
The 6’7 freshman followed three days later with an outstanding performance against league-leader La Roche College, where he scored another 13 points, brought down 9 rebounds, had 4 blocks and shot 75% from the line as well as 50% from the floor to help Hilbert (20-5) clinch a 79-75 victory in overtime.
That win gave the Hawks the top seed in the AMCC tournament as well as the regular season co-championship with La Roche (both finished 14-4), a first in the school’s history.
Owens finished the regular season ranked third in the AMCC with 8.8 rpg and 1.6 bpg and second in offensive rebound (3.2).
