Hilbert Host D'Youville In AMCC First Round Play-off Game

HAMBURG, NY - The Hilbert College men’s basketball team completed the regular season with a 14-11 record finishing in fourth place with an 11-7 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference mark. The Hawks earned the right to host a first round play-off game at 7pm Tuesday, February 21 when fifth seeded D’Youville College comes to the Hafner Recreation Center. Admission is free for all fans.
The Hawks boast six players averaging between 18.3 ppg and 7.3 ppg. Junior guard Dan McFarland leads the team with 18.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg and team-high 55 steals. Junior guard Chris Parrott is producing 12.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg. Sophomore forward Jordan VanDunk is scoring 9.9 ppg and grabbing team-best 6.2 rpg. Junior guard Anthony Hodge scores 7.7 ppg and 2.5 rpg off the bench. Senior guard Chris Hoak averages 7.3 ppg with two-thirds of his points coming from downtown. Sophomore guard CJ Hodge chips in 7.5 ppg and team-high 4 apg.
Senior Raysean Johnson leads four Spartan players in double digit scoring logging 23 ppg which slots him as the league’s leading scorer. Clustered together in point production are junior Patrick Coyle (12.2 ppg), senior Greg Osika (12.2 ppg) and freshman Jeff Curry (12.1 ppg). Coyle leads D’Youville’s charge with 9.8 rpg followed by Johnson’s 5.4 rpg. Osika is credited with 7 steals and sophomore Jake Maryniewski has distributed 110 assists. The Spartans were 10-15 overall, 10-8 in conference play.
D’Youville finished the season averaging 82.1 ppg (#2 rank in league) with Hilbert trailing behind at 77.0 ppg. In contrast, the Hawks held their opponents to 71.5 ppg scoring, and D’Youville allowed 84.8 ppg.
The Hawks averaged 36.9 rpg as the taller Spartans averaged 38.1 rpg. D’Youville led the conference with 5.6 blocks per game with 6’10” Coyle himself swatting 91 shots to average 4.8 bpg.

Also February 21, number three seed, Penn State Behrend (14-10, 13-5) will host number six seed, Pitt-Bradford (10-14, 9-9). The winners of the first round games move on to the championship weekend, hosted by Medaille College (23-2, 17-1), the number one seed. On February 24, the Hilbert / D’Youville winner will face Medaille at 5:30 pm and Behrend / Bradford winner will challenge LaRoche (18-7, 13-5) at 8pm. The championship game will be played the following day at 3pm. The AMCC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
