Cocoa Beach, FL – In the baseball team’s second outdoor playing experience of the 2011 season, the Hawks came up empty losing to Manhattanville College, 12-1 and then followed it up with a 7-0 defeat.
Senior Ryan LaCorte (Cheektowaga, NY/John F Kennedy) had the team’s only hit and scored Hilbert’s only run in their 12-1 season opening loss March 14th. Sophomore Zach Taylor (Wattsburg, PA/Seneca) pitched three and a third innings giving up only one run but the Valiants were too powerful at the plate for the early season game. LaCorte also had two stolen bases in the morning game.
In the night cap, Hilbert had four hits in the loss with junior Jim Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) connecting for two hits. Senior Frank Simmeth (Cheektowaga, NY/St. Mary’s) hit for a double while LaCorte earned another single. Dave Haseley (Sanborn, NY/Niagara Wheatfield/Coker) threw five innings giving up three earned runs.
The Hawks (0-2) will regroup and get ready for their third go-around Tuesday morning (9am) with Manhattanville in Cocoa Beach before they travel a short distance south to Ft. Pierce for an afternoon game against Westminster (2pm).
