UTICA, NY – Hilbert College played to a 2-1 half time score, but saw their close game stretch to a 6-1 loss to SUNYIT in women’s lacrosse April 7.
SUNYIT hit their third score at 24:48 to go in the second half to take a 3-1 lead, but when they hit back-to-back tallies with less than thirty seconds clicking off the game clock (at the 8th minute) , they seemed to take ownership of the victory.
Statistically, it was a very close game. Hilbert earned 12 clears, but SUNYIT just barely beat the Hawks in all other categories. The Wildcats held a 1 shot, 1 save, 2 ground balls, and 2 draw-controls advantage over the visitors from Hamburg. Hilbert went 0-4 on their free-position shots where SUNYIT was 2 of 5.
Sarah Lorusso led the Hawks with 3 draw-controls, 4 ground balls but was shut-out on her 9 shots. Nicole Blair was credited with 3 ground balls. Meghan Stewart finished with 7 saves on the day.
Hilbert has to wait until April 13 before they play their next game. They will host Franciscan University at 12 pm on Hilbert’s varsity playing field.
