HAMBURG, NY – The Hilbert College men’s volleyball team started slowly but put up a great fight before lossing 3-0 to the #14th ranked team in Division III volleyball February 14. Medaille took the first set pretty quickly claiming a 25-14 victory. But Hilbert rallied in the second to give the Mavericks notice that an injury stricken team wouldn’t lay down and die before they lost 25-18. And in the final match the Hawks challenged until the final point losing 25-20.
Medaille improved to 4-4, and 3-1 in the United Volleyball Conference after hitting 43 kills (.326%) and 8 service aces. Hilbert moved to 3-9 and 1-4 UVC and finished with 21 kills (.103%) and only 3 aces.
Adam Weaver earned 14 kills, 10 digs and 1 service ace. Dave Mellerski assisted 16 times and Ryan Ratajczak was credited with 14 digs.
Medaille rotated a full line-up on the court and finished with balanced scoring. Eric Moscato’s 8 kills led five hitters with 5 or more kills. Cory Philips and David Riggsby shared setting duties earning 22 and 13 assists respectively.
Hilbert has a full week off from games which will allow a few of the injury players to get back into the swing of things. The Hawks will travel to Nazareth College February 20.
