The women’s lacrosse club team at Hilbert College is taking advantage of the 2011-2012 year before moving to NCAA Division III varsity status during the 2012-2013 academic year.

During the 2011-12 club season, coach Decker is building and preparing a young team for their future intercollegiate competition. Senior club president, Chelsea Schreiber (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) leads the Hawk charge along with fellow senior Ally Sirotenko (Brighton, NY/Brighton).  Schreiber and Sirotenko will be counted on for their experience and leadership on and off the field before they graduate. Both will be rotating in and out of the midfield; Schreiber will be used as an attack-midfielder and Sirotenko will demonstrate her expertise on the defensive.

On the attacking end, Hilbert will look to Schreiber and freshman Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) to control the ball and find high percentage scoring opportunities. Lorusso helped her Frontier high school team win the Section VI Class A title (2011) and was named to the New York Section VI Class A Second Team for attack (2011). Lorusso is expected to rotate into the midfield for the short-handed Hawks in 2012.

Junior Caitlyn Jacob (Derby, NY/Home-Schooled) and freshman Kira Seiberg (Sinclairville, NY/Cassadaga Valley) will help mainly on the offensive end of the field, but, with their versatility, they can also assist the team as defenders.

The Hawks have a wealth of athleticism in the midfield with juniors Nicole Blair (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), Maria DelMonaco (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), Rachel Kwiatkowski (West Seneca, NY/Orchard Park) and freshman Jordan Botsford (Penfield, NY/Penfield). Schreiber, Sirotenko, and Lorusso will also drop back to the midfield when needed. These ladies will help the team to possess the ball thru the midfield by safely transitioning from defense to attack.

Sophomore Kristi Mergenhagen (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and freshman Chantelle Mikolajczak (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) will be depended on to help anchor Hilbert’s defense.

Starting in goal will be freshman Meghan Stewart (Oswego, NY/Oswego).

Sophomore Robbi Bailey (Saranac, NY/Saranac) will join the team in 2013 after she receives medical clearance from a season-ending injury which occurred in the 2011 soccer season.

The women’s lacrosse program looks forward to the experienced, recruited players joining the team when they start college in the fall of 2012.  These ladies, it is expected, will help the team easily transition to NCAA status with a successful inaugural season.
