ALFRED. NY – Hilbert dropped a non-conference men’s lacrosse game March 24 in their 22-3 defeat at Alfred University’s Merrill Field.  The Hawks move to 1-3 following their first road contest the season.

Alfred’s Brendan Murphy and Brendan Sullivan opened the scoring with two goals sixty-one seconds apart by 8:29 in the first quarter before Sean Purtill responded for Hilbert at 5:55 to pull the Hawks within one goal.

Sullivan started the Saxon three-goal run to start the second period before Doug Takac slipped a shot past Cody O’Connor at 7:47.  Two more tallies were registered for Alfred prior to Nick Kieffer’s score with 3:52 left in the half.  By intermission, Alfred held a 9-3 lead and outshot the Hawks 26-10, and almost doubled up Hilbert in ground balls (27-15).

Alfred held the game’s momentum heading into half time and ran with it the rest of the game.  Hilbert won only one of thirteen face-offs as the defense and William Wagner surrendered 13 un-answered second half goals.

Hilbert returns to action and their home field March 28 when they host Cobleskill (0-4) at 4pm.
