Hawks Win 1, Lose 2 In Crossover Weekend

PITTSFORD, NY – In a three-game weekend for the Hilbert College men’s volleyball team, the Hawks were victorious one time, taking their record to 6-14 overall and 2-8 in the UVC.
On March 10, Hilbert dropped to Vassar College in three sets: 25-17, 25-12, 26-24. Fred Sickau led the Hawks with eight kills, followed by Adam Weaver with seven kills and two service aces. Steve Phillips had 20 assists as well as two service aces. Ryan Ratajczak and Adam Clabo contributed with nine digs each for the Hawk defense.
The second game on March 10 found Hilbert playing SUNY New Paltz, dropping to them in three sets: 25-13, 25-21, 25-10. Scott Ross led this set with five kills and one service ace, with Weaver again a close-second having five kills of his own. Phillips led with 16 assists.
March 11 proved to be a whole new day for the refreshed Hawks, with Hilbert coming out victorious in a five-set match against Bard College: 25-19, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23, 15-13. It was a team effort on Sunday, with Weaver dominating the net, having 22 kills, 11 digs and four blocks. Ross added 16 kills of his own and added in three blocks. Sickau added 13 kills, seven digs and two service aces. Tony Blasz also contributed with six kills and one service ace. Phillips added in 50 assists, while Ratajczak paced the Hawk defense with 20 digs. Clabo chipped in with 14 digs to round out the stats.
The Hawks travel to Erie to take on UVC and AMCC foe Penn-State Behrend on Wednesday, March 14 at 8pm.
