Hawks Drop to Thiel In Home Opener

HAMBURG, NY – Thiel College captured a rematch victory over Hilbert College in men’s volleyball January 28. After facing Thiel one week earlier at the Elmira Tournament, the Hawks dropped a 3-set loss to the Tomcats for a second time. 
Hilbert had a tough time blocking at the net which allowed Thiel to earn multiple kills per set in the 25-11, 25-19, 25-11 match.
Hilbert’s junior transfer Scott Ross {hitting in the photo to right} led the home team with .462 hitting (eight kills, 2 errors, 13 attempts) while sophomore Fred Sickau added seven kills. Freshman Stephen Phillips {passing in the photo to right} passed for 15 assists and earned a team-high four digs as the Hawks drop to 1-4 on the young season.
Up next for the Hawks is home game against D’Youville College Wednesday, February 1 (7pm).
