KEUKA PARK, NY – After opening the game with an early two point lead, the Hilbert College women’s basketball team dropped a 79-48 non-conference contest to Keuka College (2-1). Freshman Sarah Lorusso led the visiting Hawks with 11 points and two assists and steals. Keuka was led by three players who reached double digits in their second win of the season.
Keuka’s Danielle Gravel put the first points on the score board after hitting two free throws. That lead was held for almost 90 seconds until Hilbert’s Jenah Labuski hit her first three pointer of the game giving the visitors their first lead. After Julie Bossard scored back to back jumpers, Keuka went on to a 15-0 run to stretch their lead 22-7 at the 11:48 minute mark. After play resumed following a 48-26 halftime spread, both teams traded baskets with Keuka netting a few more buckets than the Hawks for the final margin of victory. Hilbert out-rebounded the Storm 55-43 but their 25% shooting percentage from the floor didn’t help the fact that the Hawks grabbed 26 offensive rebounds.
Junior Amber Grosch finished the game with 8 points and matched that with rebounds. As did Jenah Labuski with 8 points/7 rebounds. Bossard shot 4 for 6 from the field earning 9 points in the Hawks fourth loss this season (0-4).
Keuka’s Gravel went 5 for 10 from behind the three-point line finishing with 25 points and four steals. Erica Pendrak was 7 for 11 from the field (5-8 long distance) earning 19 points and Jessica Bandrowski scored 10 points for the night.
Up next for Hilbert is a 4pm home contest against Alfred University following the men’s 2pm game. Alfred enters the game 3-1 after a recent victory over Penn College.
