Pittsburgh, PA – With eleven RedHawks seeing court time during the first 20 minutes of play, La Roche College women’s basketball team sprinted to a 59-15 half time lead and coasted to their eighth AMCC win in ten tries. Hilbert’s seven played a more respectable second half holding La Roche to only 25 second-half points, but the damage was done early as the Hawks lost 84-31, dropping to 0-10 in AMCC play. Junior Julie Bossard (Arkport, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) led Hilbert with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Amber Grosch (Depew, NY/Depew) tied two RedHawks for game-high rebounding honors with 7 boards. Senior Amanda Dudek (Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda) led the Hawks with 3 steals in a team-high thirty-five minutes of play.
La Roche’s depth and athleticism were too much for Hilbert to handle January 22. The host team, with the ability to sub frequently, had better field goal percentages (41.5% – 25%) and out-rebounded Hilbert (40-26). The AMCC Pre-Season Player of the Year candidate, Chantelle Jennings, scored 11 points in ten minutes of play for La Roche. Casie Cygan was 7-13 from the floor to lead all scorers with 16 points.
Hilbert travels to Erie, PA January 26th for their rematch against Penn State Behrend. The Lions captured the first meeting (93-35) and currently stand 12-4 overall and 8-2, tied with La Roche for third place in league standings.
