Forestville, NY: Hilbert College’s golf team participated in their second match of the season at the Spartan Shootout, hosted by D'Youville College and finished in sixth place with an overall team score of 417. The September 14th event took place at the Tri County Country Club and was captured by Penn State Behrend who finished the 72 par course with a team best 333 score. Marc Wolfe from Mount Aloysius was the individual winner (80) on the day, and it was a three way tie for second place at one stroke back between Kevin Koerbel (PS Behrend), Mark Jaccarino (Medaille) and Phil Keilman (Mount Aloysius). Hilbert’s top scorer was freshman Michael Werner (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who shot a 101, good for a 20th place finish.
The other Hilbert scorers were junior John Nowak (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) – 104; junior Patrick Brooks (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and fellow team mate Jim Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) tied with a 106 score. West Valley’s David Grigsby’s score of 109 did not tally into the team results.
The Hawks have a few days off to work on their game as their next match is scheduled for Thursday, September 23 when they travel to Peek’n Peak to compete in the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
