WEBSTER, NY - In non-conference double-header baseball games played at the Field of Dreams Park, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) swept Hilbert College by scores of 18-3, and 11-3 on March 28.     Hilbert struggled at the plate although they did have 12 hits for the day. RIT had a monster 3rd inning in Game 1 (13 runs scored) which put the game out of reach. The score was 4-2 at the top of 5th inning in Game 2, until RIT went on a 7-1 run to finish the day. The Hawks dropped to 3-7 for the season and RIT jumps to 6-5 with their wins.

In Game 1, Hilbert got on the board first when Matt Militello crossed the plate off a Colby Miller (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) single. Sophomore Jim Pernick (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) tripled in the 6th inning and then was brought home by Miller (2 RBI). And in the bottom of the 7th inning, sophomore Nick Sherman (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) doubled sending junior Frank Simmeth (Cheektowaga, NY/St. Mary’s) home for Hilbert’s final run in 1 pm contest. Junior Jake Simonick (Blasdell, NY/Orchard Park) went the distance (1-2) for the Hawks on the mound bringing his total innings pitched to 19 for the season.
In Game 2, the Hawks left 9 men on base in their 11-3 loss. Pernick and Simmeth both scored in the 4th inning for the Hawks closing the scoring gap. The Tigers went on their 3-run 5th, and 4-run 6th inning tear to open the game up again. At the top of the 7th inning Hilbert made several substitutions in the lineup and Simmeth’s single batted in a Tyshon Williams’ (Rochester, NY/Charles Finney) run to end the game.
The Hawks are scheduled to play their first AMCC game against D’Youville College at the Amherst Ice Center on Tuesday, March 30th
