Hilbert Falls Short in Battle of the Hawks

HAMBURG, NY – On Saturday, December 5, the Hilbert men’s basketball team took on AMCC conference opponent, La Roche Redhawks, from Pittsburgh, PA. The Redhawks came away with the victory defeating Hilbert by a score of 73-58.

Leading the way for the Redhawks was Nate Wojciechowski with 17 points. Hilbert was led by sophomore Chris Parrott (Warsaw, NY/ Warsaw) with 13 points along with Roman Brown (Buffalo, NY/ South Park)  and Andy Breen (West Seneca, NY/ West Seneca East) {in photo} with 11 points each. Hilbert’s record falls to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play while La Roche improves their record to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
In the first half the Hawks jumped out to a five point lead just seven minutes into the game. The fast paced first half allowed for five different lead changes and two ties. Roman Brown led all Hilbert scores with six points. Chris Parrott added five points as well in the first, knocking down the Hawk’s only 3-pointer of the half. The Redhawks went on an offensive run scoring six straight points which would take them into half time leading Hilbert 27-21. Dylan Grazier of La Roche would lead all scores for the Redhawks putting up 10 points in the first half.
In the second half, La Roche took a commanding 38-27 lead just 2:30 into the final period of play. The Redhawks would continue to build their lead throughout the remainder of the second half leading by 20 points with just 5:29 to play. Hilbert would cut the lead to 15 with :08 seconds remaining in the game.  
The Redhawks out rebounded Hilbert 48- 32 for the game while grabbing 20 offensive rebounds to Hilbert’s 9.
Hilbert returns to action on Wednesday December, 9 as they travel to Buffalo to take on cross town rival Medaille College at 8 p.m.
