The reference collection is located near the information desk on the first floor of McGrath Library. The collection includes important reference tools, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, indexes and abstracts, almanacs, atlases, bibliographies, and materials supporting Hilbert's academic programs. There are also several electronic reference sources available via links on the Library's web page.
The information desk is also the place to obtain interlibrary loan forms and current and back issues of periodicals.
Books may be borrowed from McGrath Library for three weeks, excluding reference books, which are for library use only. A valid student ID is required to check out books. Students may not check out more than five books per day or have more than 15 books out at the same time.
Books may be renewed in person or by telephone. A book may be renewed once if all overdue fines have been paid and unless another student has placed a hold on it. If the book you are looking for is not on the shelf, check at the information desk. If the book has been checked out, you may ask that it be held for you on its return. We will notify you when it's available.
Fines for overdue books are 25 cents per book per day. You will be notified if another student has requested the overdue book. When the book has a hold on it and is overdue, the fine increases to $1 per day if the book is not returned after you have received notification. Borrowing privileges are withdrawn for students owing $5 or more in fines, or whose books are two or more weeks overdue. Grades are withheld and transcripts are not sent out for students with outstanding library books and debts.
