Meet the Staff

Dr. Tara Jabbaar-Gyambrah, Director

In September of 2009, Dr. Tara Jabbaar-Gyambrah began working as the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Hilbert College. She has been working in higher education for over 8 years and holds a doctoral degree in American Studies specializing in Women’s Studies from the University at Buffalo. In addition to this, she has a background in Sociology and African American Studies and has taught several courses in women studies, popular culture, family and media studies. 
 
In her current role, Dr. Jabbaar-Gyambrah manages the day-to-day office operations, serves as a diversity consultant for the campus community, advises the Common Ground Club, and provides academic, cultural, and social support to students. She believes in the concept “it takes a whole village” to ensure the holistic (e.g., academic, social, cultural, etc.) success of students.
 
Stephon Hamell, Graduate Assistant

Stephon comes to Hilbert College with a wealth of experiences in higher education.  He is currently a graduate student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration program at Buffalo State College. Prior to this, Stephon earned his Bachelors’ degrees in Mathematics and Particle Physics. Furthermore, Mr. Hamell has extensive research knowledge in Sociology focused upon masculinity and femininity movements.

Stephon will be responsible for assisting in all facets of the Office of Multicultural Affairs.  His core duties include: serving as the co-advisor to the Common Ground Club, coordinating ‘Flip the Runway’ fashion show, and preparing the O.M.A. Spotlight Newsletter.
