McFarland Named Hilbert College Student-Athlete of the Month

HAMBURG, NY - Dan McFarland (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary’s) has been named as January 2012 Student-Athlete of the Month.
McFarland averaged 31.4 minutes per game during the 9 game-stretch in January where the Hawks went 7-2. McFarland had a memorable month in which, on January 25, he scored his 1,000 point against Penn State Behrend.
The junior guard led the Hawks in almost every category averaging 20.4 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, 4.1 assists per game, 2.6 steals per game while shooting an impressive 53.5 field goal and 85.4 free throw percentages.
McFarland had two monster games hitting twenty-nine plus points (Mount Aloysius and Pitt-Greensburg). The southpaw scored 184 points, grabbed 46 rebounds, passed for 37 assists, swiped 18 steals. He was the leading scorer, leader in field goal percentage (minimum of 15 attempts), leader in free throw percentage, and leader in assists and steals.
In his thirty-minute performance against Greensburg (1/28), McFarland netted 31 points after making 14 of his 19 shot attempts and going 3 for 3 from the charity stripe. Needing 15 points to break 1,000 points, McFarland scored 19 and distributed 6 assists in the overtime loss to Penn State Behrend (69-66).
McFarland is majoring in criminal justice and carries a cumulative 3.16 GPA.
